Melissa and Doug: Flapping Fish
Crafted from select hardwood and accented with child-safe dyes, First Play Flapping Fish features four wooden scales that flip and flap and an eye that spins!
With contrasting colors and click-clack sounds, this wooden toy is ideal for infants and young toddlers developing hand-eye coordination and concepts of cause-and-effect.
Promote learning and bonding by following the included parent-and-child play ideas or let natural exploration lead the way--this clever toy is designed to engage and inspire no matter how you and your baby play!
Extension Activities: More Ways to Play and Learn:
- Talk about the fish's colors, shapes and movements, pointing to each feature as you describe it. ("This scale is green. Let's flip it over. Now it's blue! Here is the fish's mouth, and here is the fish's eye. Can we find the tail? Here it is!") Pause between sentences so the child can "answer" with babbles or gestures.
- Toddlers may be able to point to the features after you demonstrate. Move the toy to make the scales rattle. - Ask the child to shake the toy or push the scales to see what noises he/she can create.
- Hide the fish behind a pillow or blanket while the child looks on. Say, "Where is the fish?" Move the fish into view, saying, "Peekaboo!"
